Macau’s Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced Thursday that individuals entering from Hong Kong, Taiwan and other areas outside of mainland China will be required to undergo a shortened 14-day quarantine period in designated hotels, with an extra seven days of “strict self-health management”, starting from the stroke of midnight on Monday 28 March.
The latest entry policy reduces the quarantine period for arrivals from foreign countries from the previous 21 days.
However, during the period of “strict self-health management”, those individuals’ health codes will become yellow and they will not be allowed to travel to the mainland via Macau. They will also be required to conduct COVID-19 virus tests on the first, second, fourth and seventh days from the commencement of self-health management and to comply with other preventive measures.
If they do not undertake their test on the specified date, the individual’s health code will be locked as “red” until they receive the test and obtain a negative test result.
The Centre also said that it is considering a loosening of the validation period of negative virus test results for arrivals visiting Macau from Zhuhai. If Zhuhai does not report any local COVID-19 cases for seven consecutive days – its last local case was on 19 March – the Macau SAR Government will consider extending the virus test requirements from the current 24 hours to 48 hours prior to arrival.
