The number of visitors entering Macau fell 5.6% month-on-month in February, impacted by COVID-19 outbreaks and related travel restrictions across parts of mainland China.
According to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), there were 655,505 visitor arrivals in February, down on January’s tally although 53.5% higher year-on-year. Same-day visitors grew 106.8% versus February 2021 to 376,033 and overnight visitors by 13.9% to 279,472.
The average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.4 days year-on-year to 1.5 days due to the increase in same-day visitors. The duration for same-day visitors stayed at 0.1 days while that of overnight visitors increased by 0.1 days to 3.3 days.
The number of visitor arrivals from mainland China increased by 60.1% year-on-year to 609,249, of which 196,523 travelled under the Individual Visit Scheme. There were 384,303 visitors from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area with 59.1% of those coming from Zhuhai. There were also 41,409 visitors from Hong Kong and 4,742 from Taiwan.
Almost 80% of all visitors entered Macau via the Border Gate and another 14% via the Hengqin port.
For the first two months of 2022, visitor arrivals have grown by 37.2% year-on-year to 1,349,935, with same-day visitors up 76.0% to 826,461 and overnight visitors by 1.8% to 523,474.
