There are just two weeks to go until the long-awaited return of “Regulating the Game”, a 5-day gambling regulatory education program to be held in Sydney, Australia from 7 to 11 March 2022.

A partnership between Australia’s leading specialist gambling law, regulatory, and compliance advisory, Senet, and the International Centre for Gaming Regulation (ICGR) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Regulating the Game will bring specialised gambling regulatory training to Sydney.

The program is structured to build individual and organisational capability, deepen sector knowledge and advance thinking and discussion about contemporary best practice gambling regulation. It is also designed to grapple with public policy challenges, cultivate curiosity and critical thinking, contest ideas, share insights and motivate an appetite for continuous improvement and sector leadership.

Senet regulatory and gambling specialist Paul Newson said the gambling industry is confronting alarm at compliance shortcomings and money laundering risks in the sector, and there is a tremendous opportunity for industry to respond to deficiencies and actively contribute to building a more resilient and capable sector.

“The course is bringing leading international and Australian experts together as well as key regulators including AUSTRAC, Australia’s financial intelligence unit and AML/CTF regulator, and ACMA, which has an important role in enforcing the Interactive Gambling Act, to speak about their regulatory posture, priorities and focus, and share insights about known and emerging risks in the sector,” he said.

“A key asset of the program is the opportunity to establish connections, hear from international and Australian experts and exchange ideas and perspectives with regulatory colleagues and industry participants. To start conversations and build understanding, knowledge and relationships that can better inform regulatory policy and practice, as well as position compliance and regulatory functions as enablers moving towards a more resilient, secure, safe, responsible, innovative and vibrant sector.

“Training of this nature with a mix of Australian and international experts is not available anywhere – it’s truly exceptional. We’ve lined up a star cast of leading industry figures and practitioners in gambling law and regulation with vast sector knowledge and experience.”

Industry and regulators can still secure their place in the course, either via in-person attendance to fully immerse in the program or via online registration should current travel restrictions still present challenges.
