Macau welcomed a total of 113,699 visitors during the seven-day Chinese New Year holiday, up 25.4% on the same period last year despite numbers still being constrained by travel restrictions across parts of mainland China.

According to information released by the Public Security Police Force on Monday, the daily average during this year’s Golden Week was 16,242 – peaking on Thursday 3 February with 21,972 people arriving in Macau.

However, that average of 16,242 was still 56.5% lower than 2020’s figure of 37,300 visitors per day and 90.6% lower than 2019 when 1.21 million visitors or 172,857 per day entered Macau.

The primary points of arrival during this year’s Golden Week were the Border Gate, where 52,829 people crossed into Macau, followed by Hengqin Port with 28,548. Another 18,699 arrived by air with smaller numbers arriving via six other entry points.

Visitor arrivals from mainland China were up 29.0% to 106,080 of which 49,063 entered via the Border Gate.

Analysts said Monday that daily gross gaming revenue was more than 60% higher than the CNY Golden Week in 2021.
