The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has announced the resumption of its “Stay, Dine and See Macao” program, aimed at encouraging residents to take local tours and stay in the city’s hotels.
Set to run from 29 January to 31 August 2022, “Stay, Dine and See Macao” will operate on the same basis as the original program held last year – part of the government’s efforts to boost the economy given a substantial decline in visitation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As reported by Inside Asian Gaming, Macau welcomed just 7.7 million visitors in 2021 – 30.7% higher than 2020 but still 80.0% lower than in 2019.
The “Stay, Dine and See Macao” program will see local residents provided a MOP$280 subsidy to take part in a local tour, including a MOP$100 dining card. All residents will also be granted one MOP$200 subsidy for a hotel staycation. Up to two residents can combine their staycation subsidies for a MOP$400 saving.
The MGTO said there are 14 tour itineraries on offer taking in sights such as the Macao Grand Prix Museum, ZIPCITY as Lisboeta, a VR experience, the Macao Science Center and a maritime tour between Barra Pier and Coloane Pier. There is also an option for residents to design their own tour itinerary.
All tours will be conducted in strict compliance with the Health Bureau’s guidelines on pandemic prevention, the MGTO said, with anyone showing a yellow or red Macao Health Code unable to take part. Participants will also be required to scan into all venues using the government’s recently released mobile app.
