Dream Cruises, a subsidiary of Genting Cruise Lines, has taken another step forward with the resumption of domestic sailings out of Taiwan.

Explorer Dream set sail on its first voyage in seven months on Saturday, ringing in the New Year with a 2-night cruise from Keelung to Hualian. The company had previously resumed sailings between July 2020 and May 2021 before being forced to suspend operations for the second time in as many years due to another outbreak of COVID-19.

The resumption of sailings out of Taiwan follows a similar announcement in Malaysia, which resumed voyages of its own on 22 December, and Hong Kong where ship capacity was increased from 50% to 75% last month.

“We are pleased to see Explorer Dream setting sail once again from Keelung, taking guests on a spectacular cruise to catch the first sunrise above the horizon in 2022,” said Vice President – Sales, Taiwan of Dream Cruises, Sally Riu.

“On behalf of Dream Cruises, we would like to thank the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, as well as the Ministry of Health and Welfare, for their advice and guidance over the past months to ensure that stringent preventive measures and health protocols are in place for safe cruising, which are indispensable to the restart of Explorer Dream’s Super Seacation itineraries.”

Dream Cruises said all guests of Explorer Dream will be required to be fully vaccinated and present a negative PCR test obtained within two days of departure.

It added that the ship is equipped with a “state-of-the-art 24-hour medical centre managed by a professional medical team of doctor and nurses, complete with negative-pressure isolation wards and eight PCR testing machines, including six newly added VitaPCRTM PCR Instruments that allows rapid and timely detection of infectious diseases including COVID-19 in 20 minutes.”
