The expansion of Hann Casino Resort, previously known as Widus Hotel & Casino, in the Philippines’ Clark Freeport Zone has incorporated nature and sustainability as core feature of its design, according to the property’s owners.

With the soft opening of Hann Casino Resort just days away, Hann Group this week unveiled new details guests can expect to find within the property, including a design based on Pampanga province’s mountains and forests and materials sourced from sustainably managed forests and plantations.

The resort has been designed by Aedas Interiors Limited HK – the same firm responsible for the Hong Kong International Airport Midfield Concourse and the Langham in Shenzhen – with maximalist clean lines and geometric forms in front-of-house areas embodying various layers seen in nature, creating an effect of “comfort and curiosity”.

“Integrating Clark’s tropical forests and famous mountain landscapes into the development’s interiors keep Hann Casino close to the heart of the locals, as well as creating a refreshing experience for foreign guests,” said Alan Hamilton, Director of Aedas Interiors Limited HK.

Materials used in decorating these areas are FSC Chain-of-Custody certified, Hann Group said, meaning that the path of the sustainable building materials from the forests was traced and verified, while the use of Singapore Green Building Product-certified paint ensures the paint has met green standards and is sustainable.

“Using these products ensures that Hann Casino has minimal waste, less energy consumption and less impact on the environment as a whole,” the company said.

Hann casino Resort has also installed an Under Floor Air Distribution (UFAD) system in its gaming areas and the car park, by which air is supplied through the floor and exhausted through the ceiling.

“This means that the air in the casino is continually cleaned of pollutants including tobacco smoke, volatile organic compounds and critically, airborne pathogens, including the SARS-CoV-2 virus which causes COVID-19,” said Philip J. Thoburn, the CEO and Technical Director of engineering firm Forsspac.

“With UFAD, the air in the guest space is continually replaced from the floor, and all airborne pollutants and pathogens are removed by extraction at the ceiling.”

In other areas of the development where conventional air conditioning systems are used, all recirculated air is filtered and diluted with pretreated outdoor air. With these systems in place, the Hann management assures its compliance with local requirements concerning COVID-19.

“With Hann Casino’s design, we want to prioritize environmental sustainability and quality guest experience,” said Daesik Han, Chairman and CEO of Hann Philippines Inc.

“We will continue to prioritize the indoor health of our developments even after the acute crisis of the pandemic has passed.”

The first phase of the Hann Casino Resort expansion project will cover 130,000 square meters and include a “world-class gaming space” plus 380 hotel rooms across 19 storeys, specialty dining options, retail outlets, a swimming pool, an executive lounge plus event venues such as a ballroom and function rooms.
