The streets of Macau played host the 40th edition of the Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon on Sunday, with Chinese runners not surprisingly dominating the top placings.

With the race starting and finishing at the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium, the 42.195km course saw competitors run along both the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge and the Sai Van Bridge, passing by the World Heritage A-Ma Temple before returning to the stadium. Yang Shaohui and Zhang Deshun were crowned winners of the men’s and women’s categories respectively, while Bian Qi and Yin Xiao Yu won the half-marathons.

The popular annual event, jointly organized by the Sports Bureau and the General Association of Athletics of Macau and title-sponsored by Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), was officiated by President of the Sports Bureau Pun Weng Kun, President of the General Association of Athletics of Macau Lam Hin Fu, GEG Vice Chairman Francis Lui and GEG director Philip Cheng.

The event has been held annually since 1981.
