Discussion around proposed amendments to Macau’s gaming law will feature prominently at this year’s MGS Summit, to be held in an online format this Wednesday 17 November 2021.
Macau’s gaming law has been a hot topic in recent months after the government released in September a consultation document outlining key revisions it was considering ahead of the re-tendering of gaming licenses in 2022. Among the most debated revisions in the two months since have been a proposal to require the government to approve the distribution of any dividends, to increase the minimum share requirement be held by a Macau local in each concessionaire and the appointment of a government representative to each concessionaire.
A 45-day public consultation was concluded in late October with the government due to hand down a full report by March.
MGS Summit will include two sessions specifically focused on these gaming law revisions. Wang Changbin, Director and Professor of the Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies at Macao Polytechnic Institute will deliver a keynote titled “Into the New Era – Public Gaming Policy” while Macau-based lawyer Antonio Lobo Vilela will deliver another keynote titled “Gaming Law & Casino Concessions in Macau.”
The topic is also likely to be raised during a panel discussion featuring representatives of all six Macau operators. Moderated by Professor Davis Fong, the panel will include Sands China President Dr Wilfred Wong, MGM China President, Chief Strategic and Financial Officer Kenneth Feng, Melco Resorts SVP and General Manager of Altira Macau and Mocha Clubs, Raymond Lo, Galaxy Entertainment Group SVP of Public Relations Buddy Lam, Assistant Vice President of Research, Planning and Strategy for Wynn Macau and Wynn Palace, Dr Jason Ni, and Chief Operating Officer – Finance & Development for SJM Resorts S.A., Benjamin Toh.
