IT’S A LITTLE OVER A YEAR since George Tanasijevich stepped aside as President and CEO of Marina Bay Sands as part of an executive reshuffle, assuming the role of Managing Director and with a greater focus on regional development opportunities rather than day-to-day operations.
But with long-time lieutenant Andrew MacDonald having retired in July, it seems Tanasijevich is as busy now as ever before.
MacDonald had been working side by side with Paul Town in running the show at Marina Bay Sands. Following his departure, Town has stepped into the role of Chief Operating Officer and with one less man on the ground, Tanasijevich’s experience in Singapore appears to be that much more important as MBS maps its path out of COVID.
Meanwhile, the 54-year-old’s role overseeing parent Las Vegas Sands’ global expansion efforts has only grown following the US$6.25 billion sale of the company’s Las Vegas assets earlier this year. LVS withdrew from Japan but has stated its intention to seek other opportunities in Asia, wherever those might be.
Tanasijevich also has the not-so-small matter of MBS’s US$3.3 billion expansion on his plate. Expected to gain significant momentum over the coming year, the project will see a fourth tower added to the Singapore tourism icon with a 15,000-seat arena, new rooftop attractions and additional MICE and gaming space.
