The Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee has confirmed that this year’s Macau Grand Prix will go ahead from 19 to 21 November 2021.

At a press conference held in the Convention Hall of the Macao Science Center on Monday, organizers allayed fears that a recent outbreak of COVID-19 could interfere with this year’s event, instead outlining a six-race schedule to be held on Macau’s famous Gaia Circuit. It was also announced Monday that the SAR’s six casino concessionaires would each sponsor one of the six races in 2021.

“The Macau Grand Prix is the most important sports tourism brand of the Macao Special Administrative Region,” the Sports Bureau said in a statement.

“As the epidemic in Macau stabilizes, holding this year’s Grand Prix as scheduled sends a clear message and demonstrates that Macau is a vibrant and safe city to visit. The associated positive effects of the Grand Prix serve to promote the development of different industries, and thereby boost the economy.

“In addition, the annual Grand Prix will be broadcast to countries and regions in the mainland and overseas so as to positively promote the image of Macau.”

The six races to be held this year include the SJM Formula 4 Macau Grand Prix; Sands China Macau GT Cup; Galaxy Entertainment Macau Guia Race; Melco Macau Touring Car Cup; MGM Greater Bay Area GT Cup; and Wynn Porsche Carrera Cup Challenge.

Race weekend will be preceded by a series of promotional activities, starting with the 68th Macau Grand Prix Family Carnival on 6 and 7 November and followed by the 68th Macau Grand Prix Car Show on 13 and 14 November, both at Tap Seac Square.

The Sports Bureau said strict epidemic prevention measures will be implemented during the event, while the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee will “continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 epidemic situation and make arrangements for epidemic prevention in a timely manner in accordance with the relevant guidelines issued by the Health Bureau.”
