The first of two casinos ordered to suspend operations due to a recent outbreak of COVID-19 in Macau has reopened to the public.
Grand Emperor Hotel closed its doors on 4 October after a non-resident worker who stayed at the property tested positive to the virus. Casino Oceanus, located near the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal on the Macau peninsula, also closed but was allowed to reopen on 9 October.
According to a notice posted on its website, Grand Emperor resumed operations on Tuesday 19 October after the Macao Health Bureau confirmed that the case had acquired his infection elsewhere and the hotel was not the origin.
“The health and safety of guests and employees are always our top priority,” the notice read.
“We have consistently implemented high-standard epidemic prevention and health measures as always. During the closure period, all employees and guests have conducted and passed NAT tests [of] which all the results were negative. The hotel will keep implementing strict hygiene measures to safeguard and provide a clean environment for our guests.”
The reopening of Grand Emperor comes after the government allowed other entertainment venues to reopen this week, while authorities in Zhuhai dropped a measure requiring all arrivals from Macau to enter 14 days of hotel quarantine.
