Melco Resorts & Entertainment has announced that it has taken over the management and operation of Club Cubic, located at City of Dreams Macau, with the popular nightclub set to operate under a new name when it reopens.
Opened in 2011, Club Cubic had until now been operated by Hong Kong-listed Luk Hing Entertainment Group Holdings Ltd, which also runs CUBIC SPACE+ in Zhuhai City. No information was provided by either Melco or Luk Hing on the reasons for the transfer of management, however Melco confirmed that “all local employees would be offered the option to continue to be involved in the operation of the nightclub.”
Currently closed following an order from the Macau government this week for a range of public entertainment venues to suspend operations due to COVID-19, Melco said Club Cubic would “reopen as soon as the current health precautionary measures are lifted by the Macau government and will be operated under a new name.”
Listed in 2015, Luk Hing’s most recent financial report shows group-wide revenue of HK$89.8 million (US$11.5 million) in the six months to 30 June 2021 of which HK$15.3 million (US$2.0 million) was derived from its Macau nightclub. Loss attributable to owners of the company was HK$15.9 million (US$2.1 million).
For the 12 months to 31 December 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic impacted operations, group-wide revenue was HK$225.4 million (US$29.0 million) of which Macau contributed HK$121.2 million (US$15.6 million). Loss for the year was HK$30.6 million (US$3.9 million), having recorded a slight HK$2.2 million (US$282,000) profit in 2018.
