Malaysia’s Resorts World Genting says it has reopened some facilities as of Thursday 30 September, just days after the government’s tourism office said it had postponed a plan allowing certain tourism spots, including Genting Highlands, to open.

According to a notice from operator Genting Malaysia, RWG has reopened with “limited offerings” and for Pahang residents only under Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan.

All of the IR’s employees are fully vaccinated and some facilities are only available to fully vaccinated guests, it added. There is no specific mention of exactly which facilities are currently open.

“We will be reopening more facilities and offerings once interstate travel is allowed,” RWG said.

Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob earlier scrapped a plan to launch a domestic tourism bubble for Malaysian residents to travel to certain tourism spots, including Genting Highlands – home to RWG – until 90% of the country’s adult population is fully vaccinated. That figure currently sits at almost 85% and is projected to hit 90% within two weeks.

RWG had been closed since 1 June under Malaysia’s nationwide lockdown.
