A curfew imposed on the Cambodia capital city of Phnom Penh will be extended by at least seven more days.
According to information from the Phnom Penh Capital Administration, initial two-week curfew implemented from Friday 30 July will be extended for another week, although curfew hours will be slightly reduced, starting from 10pm instead of 9pm each day and running until 3am. The curfew is currently scheduled to expire after 11.59pm next Thursday 19 August.
The city has also extended the suspension of certain business activities, including casinos, for 14 days until at least 26 August. NagaWorld, which holds a monopoly casino license within a 200km radius of Phnom Penh until 2045, has been closed since March when company-wide COVID-19 testing returned 11 positive results.
The suspended activities include “all kinds of clubs, including karaoke, bars, discos, beer gardens and casinos,” plus resorts, museums, playgrounds and parks, massage and saunas, liquor stores, cinemas, art theaters, gyms and all sports centers.
Cambodia reported 486 new cases on Wednesday with a 7-day average of 550, down from a peak of 1,130 cases on 30 June.
