Sands China Ltd held a farewell ceremony on Sunday for 300 medical professionals from Guangdong Province who assisted with Macau’s three-day mass COVID-19 testing blitz last week.
The professionals, who arrived thanks to the coordination of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, were supported by Sands China throughout their stay.
They contributed to the more than 716,000 COVID-19 tests administered at 41 sites across the city from Wednesday to Saturday. As reported by IAG, all tests returned a negative result.
Around 100 guests attended Sunday’s ceremony, where the medical professionals were given gift bags as a token of appreciation for their hard work.
The guest list included Ao Ieong U, secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR; Yan Zhichan, deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; representatives of the Guangdong medical team; Chai Hongliang, deputy director of the Zhuhai Health Education Office; Song Li Hong, director of the general office of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Wan Su Cheng, director general of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Alvis Lo Iek Long, director of the Health Bureau of the Macao SAR; and Dr Wilfred Wong, President of Sands China Ltd.
“In response to a potential outbreak, the Macao SAR government acted swiftly and decisively to launch a series of emergency measures, which has won public support from all sectors of society,” said Dr Wong.
“Our deepest gratitude goes to all Macau healthcare workers for their selfless dedication, and to mainland authorities for sending more than 300 medical professionals to Macau for support – together helping the city successfully complete its mass testing programme in three days.
“Sands China was honoured to have the opportunity to host the Guangdong medical team during their stay and to play our part in assisting in the fight against COVID-19 and safeguarding our community.”
