Marina Bay Sands has resumed casino operations following a two-week closure.

The casino reopened at around 6pm on Thursday night after being closed since 22 July in order to undergo deep cleaning due to a COVID-19 cluster, part of Singapore’s latest outbreak, being linked to the property.

In a statement posted on its website, MBS said the re-opening “comes at a time when vaccination rates among our staff have reached nearly 90%.”

MBS also outlined a “further enhancement of our Rostered Routine Testing programme for staff” currently being rolled out, with COVID-19 testing frequency differentiated based on the vaccination status of individual team members and their job risk profiles.

“This means that guest-facing staff will undergo swab tests at a frequency ranging from every three days up to every 28 days,” the company added.

“The integrated resort, which has hygiene and sanitisation certifications … is committed to being vigilant on all fronts, working closely with the authorities to respond and adapt quickly to the evolving situation.”

The closure was the second time in two months that MBS had suspended casino operations for cleaning, with two dealers having also tested positive for COVID-19 in May. The company responded at the time by testing 7,450 staff and 800 contractors, with all returning negative results.

Singapore reported 96 new cases of community transmission on Thursday.
