Macau’s neighboring city, Zhuhai city in Guangdong Province, confirmed one local COVID-19 infection on Monday, with Macau and Zhuhai quickly introducing several preventative policies.

The latest case is a man who arrived in Zhuhai from Nanjing, where there has been a significant outbreak of COVID-19 over the past week, on 19 July and was quarantined on 21 July after Nanjing Lukou International Airport reported several infections among staff.

On Monday, the Zhuhai government implemented a lockdown policy on areas where the patient visited last week and announced it would conduct mass testing of all residents. All test results have been negative so far.

Although no close contacts of the latest Zhuhai infection had visited Macau, the Macau health authorities have called on those who were in the same areas as the patient to receive a virus test as soon as possible. At least 10 people in Macau have been added to the list and will be tested three times each over the next seven days. However, there have been no additional border restrictions implemented at this stage.

Meanwhile, Macau has decided to quarantine any individuals who have been to Nanjing International Airport since 14 July, accounting for around 150 people as of 26 July.
