Melco Resorts & Entertainment Japan has renewed its partnership agreement with Japanese J1 League side Yokohama F. Marinos.

The extension comes two years after Melco first partnered with the football club in a sponsorship deal that has seen a Melco Resorts logo feature on the team’s jerseys and the two organization’s cooperate in hosting events.

The collaboration has included a “Stay Strong Together and Support our Hometown Shopping Streets!” project, launched in April 2021, aimed at helping local shops in Yokohama, Yokosuka and Yamato that have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Melco, one of two contenders to develop an integrated resort on Yokohama alongside another consortium led by Genting Singapore, had first inked its partnership agreement with Yokohama F. Marinos before Yokohama had even declared its intention to bid.

“Since July 2019, when we first signed a partnership agreement with Yokohama F. Marinos, Melco Resorts has been working with the club, endeavoring to develop the region and contribute to society through sports entertainment,” said Frederic Winckler, Melco’s Executive Vice President and Chief Creative & Brand Officer.

“Even in the unprecedented situation of the COVID-19 pandemic that has impacted the world since last year, we have shared in the team’s glory of winning the 2019 J1 League, with the team under the message, ‘Stay Strong Together.’

“We are very happy to continue these various initiatives to revitalize the local community with the team. We will continue these activities from 1 July 2021 as an official partner.”
