More than 35% of Macau residents have now received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to information from the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre.
The figure represents a vast improvement from a month ago, when it was revealed that only 13.7% of the population or around 93,000 residents had received their first dose.
Based on the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre’s latest statistics, there have now been 232,597 people to have received at least their first jab with 103,923 of those having now received both shots. In total, 336,520 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to Macau residents.
The increase in Macau’s vaccination rates follows a series of initiatives by the Coordination Center in recent months and a meeting with the SAR’s six gaming concessionaires in mid-May at which they were encouraged to initiate incentive and education programs for staff. Most operators also set up on-site vaccination points for staff and their families, with SJM revealing last week it extended its on-site initiative from two days to four due to popular demand.
The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre said on Wednesday that it urges members of the public to make a booking for vaccination, adding, “Such effort is conducive to safeguarding Macau by building a population-wide immunity.”
