US tribal casino operator Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment has announced the appointment of long-time executive Ray Pineault as its new President and CEO.
Pineault, a former President and General Manager of Mohegan’s flagship Connecticut property Mohegan Sun and more recently company COO, assumes the new role following the sudden departure of CEO Mario Kontomerkos in March.
His responsibilities, the company said, will revolve around driving the overall success of Mohegan alongside the Tribal Council, including creating communicating and executing a global vision, strategy and direction. He will also drive the operational results of all Mohegan owned and affiliated properties through overseeing the effective development, implementation and measurement of all strategic business plans.
“I want to congratulate fellow Tribal member Ray Pineault as he assumes the role of President and Chief Executive Officer for Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment,” said James Gessner, Jr., Chairman of the Mohegan Tribe and Mohegan Management Board.
“We are tremendously lucky to have someone of Ray’s caliber, experience and intellect taking on this role. His grasp of our organization and all its moving parts across nine worldwide properties is unmatched. Having someone with these abilities come from within our Tribal membership makes this day all the more meaningful.”
Pineault’s global focus will be made somewhat easier by the presence of another former Mohegan CEO in Bobby Soper, who returned to the company following Kontomerkos’s departure in the role of International President, responsible for the group’s international expansion efforts.
Mohegan is currently developing integrated resorts in Incheon, South Korea and in Greece, and is one of three bidders remaining to develop an IR in Nagasaki, Japan.
