Genting Malaysia has announced the closure of the casino and recued operating hours of other attractions at its Malaysian IR, Resorts World Genting (RWG).

The measures follow new guidance from the government around its Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0, including a requirement for 80% of workers in the public sector and 40% in the private sector to work from home, public transport being limited to 50% capacity and an array of businesses restricted to operating hours of 8am to 8pm daily.

Malaysia recorded a record high of 6,976 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday.

In response, RWG posted an update on Monday in which it confirmed the casino would be “temporarily closed from today until further notice” while resort operating hours will be limited to between 8am and 8pm until 7 June 2021.

“This applies to all our hotels, food & beverage outlets, shopping malls, retail outlets and other facilities,” the company said. “Some of our offerings may not be available during this period.”

RWG closed for three months in 2020, from 18 March until 19 June, following the initial outbreak of COVID-19 and implementation of a Movement Control Order by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

It also closed for four weeks from 22 January until 17 February 2021 under Malaysia’s MCO 2.0.
