Anyone arriving in Macau who has been in India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Nepal or Brazil in the previous 28 days will now be required to undergo 35 days of hotel quarantine.
The new measures, announced Monday and starting as of Tuesday 18 May, were announced by the Macau government after the SAR recorded its 50th case of COVID-19.
The 31-year-old prison officer from Nepal arrived in Macau on 25 April at which time he tested negative to COVID-19 but positive to antibodies. After being sent to the Public Health Clinical Centre in Coloane for medical observation, he produced three more negative tests through 9 May before returning a weak positive on 16 May. As he was not diagnosed before his arrival into Macau, he is deemed to be the SAR’s 50th case, officials said.
While the quarantine period for the likes of Nepal has now been extended to new highs, the government has also increased the quarantine period from 14 days to 21 days for those arriving from Taiwan due to its own outbreak of COVID-19.
