Malaysia’s Resorts World Genting (RWG) remains open but with limited operations as the nation enters its third lockdown since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister announced on Monday that Malaysia would be subject to a new Movement Control Order from 12 May until at least 7 June 2021 as the latest wave of COVID-19 continues to spread. The country has averaged around 3,850 cases per day for the past seven days.
There is some respite, however, with MCO 3.0, as it has been dubbed, less strict than previous lockdowns. While interstate and interdistrict travel has been banned and educational institutions closed down, economic sectors have been granted permission to maintain business as usual.
Contacted by Inside Asian Gaming, RWG confirmed it is also operational but with restrictions on gaming and retail offerings.
Those restrictions include Genting Casino, Genting Club and Genting Club Private Gaming all being open to Genting Rewards members only. Both Genting Grand and Highlands Hotel are open – the latter exclusively to Genting Rewards gold members and above – while F&B outlets are all takeaway only. The SkyAvenue and First World Plaza retail malls are open with limited offerings.
This is in line with the Malaysian government’s current Standard Operating Procedures, a Genting Malaysia representative said.
RWG last closed its doors on 22 January before reopening on 18 February after the government relaxed its Movement Control Order.
It had previously closed for three months in 2020, from 18 March until 19 June, following the initial outbreak of COVID-19 and implementation of Malaysia’s first Movement Control Order by Prime Minister Yassin.
