Visitation figures released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) for the month of March 2021 highlight a significant increase in arrivals to Macau, with the number of visitors rising more than 250% year-on-year and almost 77% sequentially.
According to the DSEC, Macau welcomed 754,541 visitors in March – 255.4% higher than in March 2020 and 76.7% higher than in February 2021. Those figures were reflected in the 13.6% sequential increase in gross gaming revenues to MOP$8.31 billion (US$1.04 billion) previously announced by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau for March.
The number of overnight visitors climbed 221.6% year-on-year to 404,936 and same-day visitors by 304.6% to 349,605, the DSEC said.
Mainland China was the primary source of visitation to Macau, up 674.4% year-on-year to 688,353 of which 268,302 traveled under the Individual Visit Scheme. The majority of those (687,127) also arrived by land of which 82.7% or 568,571 entered via the Gongbei Border Gate. Visitor arrivals by air and by sea totalled 46,985 and 20,429 respectively.
For the first three months of 2021 combined, visitor arrivals fell 46.0% year-on-year to 1,738,428.
