Crown Resorts may be facing a Royal Commission over its suitability to retain its Victorian casino license, but at least the business outlook is improving for Crown Melbourne.
Crown confirmed on Tuesday that, following the latest easing of COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria, Crown Melbourne has been granted permission to increase the number of patrons allowed on its gaming floor.
Taking effect from this Friday 26 March, Crown Melbourne will be permitted the lesser of 75% capacity of the facility as outlined in its occupancy permit, or a density quota of one person per two square meters. The property had previously been limited to 50% capacity or one person per four square meters.
Crown Melbourne will also be allowed to turn on electronic gaming machines and table games, having previously been required to switch off every second position.
“Other physical distancing and hygiene protocols remain in place,” Crown said. “Crown will continue to work closely with the Government and health authorities in Victoria and will respond to measures taken in relation to COVID-19.”
Victoria on Tuesday reached 25 consecutive days without any new locally transmitted cases of COVID-19, and currently has no active cases.
The first hearing of the Royal Commission into Crown’ssuitability to hold a casino license for Crown Melbourne is set to begin today – Victoria’s response to the findings of an inquiry held in NSW last year and outlined in a report released in February 2021 by Commissioner Patricia Bergin.
