Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment has announced the appointment of former CEO Bobby Soper to the new role of International President, overseeing the company’s Asian expansion efforts in Japan and South Korea.
Soper, who served as CEO between 2015 and 2017, returns to Mohegan following the departure of Mario Kontomerkos, who revealed last week he was stepping down as current CEO from 31 March 2021.
As International President, Soper will specifically be in charge of coordinating and directing all aspects of Mohegan’s efforts related to both the Inspire Korea Project in South Korea, due to open in 2022, and in Nagasaki, Japan where the company is pursuing an IR license alongside consortium partner Oshidori International Development.
Mohegan and Oshidori were one of three groups named last week as having progressed to the next phase of Nagasaki’s RFP process.
“Having served the Mohegan Tribe and Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment for many years, we are confident in Bobby’s experience and capabilities to guide our efforts on the ground in Asia,” said James Gessner Jr, Chairman of the Mohegan Tribe.
“Bobby’s leadership and presence representing MGE will serve as a catalyst and result in significant progress with both of these important international project commitments.”
Soper previously held a series of senior executive roles with Mohegan between 2001 and 2017 before starting his own company, Sun Gaming & Hospitality.
