Melco says Cyprus integrated resort now scheduled to open mid-2022

Melco Resorts & Entertainment says its €550 million Cyprus integrated resort development, City of Dreams Mediterranean, is now on track to open in the northern summer of 2022, faster than earlier estimates of an autumn launch.

The new summer timeline comes after Melco was previously forced to postpone its original planned opening, scheduled for late 2021, as a result of COVID-19-related construction delays.

According to a Friday statement, development of City of Dreams Mediterranean is “now advancing well towards completion.”

Located in the city of Limassol on the southeastern coast of Cyprus, City of Dreams Mediterranean will be Europe’s largest integrated resort, featuring a 16-storey, five-star hotel with more than 500 luxury guest rooms and suites, 10,000 square meters of MICE space, an outdoor amphitheater, a family adventure park and a variety of fine-dining and luxury retail outlets. It will also boast a 7,500-square meter casino with 100 gaming tables and 1,000 slot machines.

“Construction work is progressing smoothly and even though the COVID-19 outbreak has impacted our original timeline, we remain committed to this ground-breaking project while staying focused on the delivery of the Melco standard of excellence,” said Grant Johnson, Property General Manager of City of Dreams Mediterranean and Cyprus Casinos.

“We aim to establish a unique destination, offering a premium entertainment experience to our guests while creating real value for the country’s economy and society.

“City of Dreams Mediterranean is set to enrich Cyprus’ tourism landscape, attracting an additional 300,000 visitors per year to the island. We are, therefore, confident that the project will contribute significantly towards combatting seasonality as well as creating thousands of job opportunities.”

Melco’s three satellite casinos and its temporary facility in Limassol have all been closed since mid-December due to COVID-19.

Melco owns 75% of CoD Mediterranean developer ICR Cyprus.
