Authorities in Singapore are investigating the movements of a Malaysian truck driver who tested positive to COVID-19 a week after visiting Genting Singapore’s Resorts World Sentosa.
According to the Singapore Ministry of Health, the driver was denied entry to Singapore after testing positive to COVID-19 antigen rapid test at a checkpoint on 18 February. However, it was later discovered that on his last visit to Singapore the previous week he had visited the casino at Resorts World Sentosa.
Under Singapore’s health guidelines, Malaysian truck drivers are allowed entry to Singapore in order to deliver certain goods but are not permitted to stay overnight nor to mingle in the community. The truck driver in question had stayed overnight on 8 February before visiting RWS on 9 February.
Although it is unlikely he was infectious at the time, the Ministry of Health said it had placed all identified close contacts of the man into isolation.
RWS was closed for two-and-a-half months last year, from mid-April to 1 July, following the initial onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
