Macau welcomed a total of 17,357 visitor arrivals on Sunday – the highest total since the start of the Chinese New Year Golden Week holiday four days earlier.

Sunday’s total represented a 52.0% year-on-year decline but was substantially higher than the 13,193 who arrived on Saturday, which was 71.0% lower than the same day in 2020. Just 8,162 people arrived in Macau on Thursday and 9,058 on Friday.

Four days into Golden Week, visitor arrivals now sit at 47,770, still 75.5% lower year-on-year as a stay home advisory in mainland China continues to keep travel subdued during the usually busy CNY period.

Visitor arrivals from mainland China are down 61.2% year-on-year at 43,330 with the majority coming via land crossings: 25,276 have entered Macau via the Border Gate and another 11,520 via the Hengqin Port.

The ferry service between Hong Kong and Macau remains closed.
