The first batch of COVID-19 vaccines will arrive in Macau this week, with the SAR Government’s vaccination plan expected to start around the Chinese New Year holiday.
The first 100,000 doses coronavirus vaccines are inactivated vaccines produced by the China National Pharmaceutical Group. The health authority is currently arranging the vaccination plan and preliminary preparation works with a rapid rollout anticipated in the coming weeks.
Macau has also purchased mRNA vaccines and adenovirus vector vaccines, however, those are not expected to arrive until the end of February and in 3Q21 respectively.
Vaccination will be under voluntary and optional principles, with eligible people allowed to choose both whether to receive vaccines and which vaccine they would prefer.
Front line health personnel, high occupational exposure groups and those who need to visit high-risk areas are among those with priority to be vaccinated with the government stating this week that casino workers would be included among those high occupational exposure groups due to their regular and extensive contact with the public.
