Sands China Ltd says it successfully completed a large-scale fire drill at The Londoner Macao ahead of its official opening next week.
The drill was held at luxury residential-style all-suite hotel Londoner Court and saw around 200 team members take part in order to test the emergency-response readiness of both themselves and the property itself.
The drill simulated a fire in an 11th floor hotel room caused by a cigarette butt, with alarms activating and an evacuation announcement made to all departments.
The Macao Fire Services Bureau was also involved, dispatching two ambulances, four fire engines and 28 firefighters to the hotel. As part of the simulation, one team member received medical attention at the assembly area for smoke inhalation, Sands China said.
“The safety of our guests, visitors, and team members are at the top of Sands China’s priorities,” said Executive Director of Occupational Health and Safety, Brian Taylor. “Friday’s fire drill was an opportunity to practice emergency procedures in a simulated but safe environment, ensuring that team members are prepared to swiftly and competently respond to a fire incident.
“Our thanks go to the Fire Services Bureau and the Public Security Police Force for their cooperation and support, and to our team members for their excellent response.”
The first phase of The Londoner Macao will open next Monday 8 February, representing a comprehensive reimagining of Sands Cotai Central, first opened in April 2012.
With the new-look property to be unveiled in stages throughout 2021, Phase 1 will comprise the all-suite The Londoner Hotel, Crystal Palace atrium, new dining options and interactive London-themed attractions.
Later phases will include the Suites by David Beckham, the luxury residential-style all-suite hotel Londoner Court, re-themed Shoppes at Londoner and Londoner Arena.
