Macau restaurants have been awarded a combined total of 30 Michelin stars, including one newly ranked 1-star restaurant and recognition under a new Green Star initiative in the Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2021.
Released Wednesday, this year’s highly anticipated guide awarded stars to 18 restaurants in Macau with three of those – Jade Dragon at City of Dreams and Grand Lisboa’s Robuchon au Dôme and The Eight – retaining their elite 3 Michelin Star status.
New to the list was Wing Lei Palace at Wynn Macau, which was awarded 1 Michelin Star for offering, “skillful Cantonese dishes with floor-to-ceiling views of Wynn Palace’s Performance Lake.”
It joined Lai Heen at Ritz-Carlton in Galaxy, 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo – Bombana at Galaxy, Pearl Dragon at Studio City, The Golden Peacock at The Venetian, The Kitchen at Grand Lisboa, Tim’s Kitchen at Lisboa Hotel, Ying at Altira and Zi Yat Heen at Four Seasons Hotel with 1-star.
Alain Ducasse at Morpheus, Feng Wei Ju at StarWorld, Golden Flower and Mizumi (Macau) at Wynn Macau, and Sichuan Moon and Wing Lei at Wynn Palace all received 2 Michelin Stars.
Gwendal Poullennec, the International Director of Michelin Guides, described the release of the Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2021 as “a celebration of the courage and creativity of the restaurant industry and its commitment to serving local communities as well as medical staff.
“2020 was a year full of challenges but also opportunities for innovation,” he said. ”Despite the difficult times, the wonderful culinary journeys and the unfailing talent behind every plate proposed to diners in Hong Kong and Macau have amazed our inspectors. This is exactly what we want to celebrate with this brand new edition of the Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau.”
This year’s guide also awarded the IFT Educational Restaurant in Macau with the SAR’s first Michelin Green Star, a new category highlighting the efforts of restaurants operating at the forefront of their field with sustainable practices, as well as fulfilling a role in spreading their vision.
ITF Educational Restaurant was recognized for implementing training practices such as the conversion of food waste into fertilizer, growing its owns herbs and greens, and implementing a solar energy system, paperless policy and infrared sensor-driven electrical appliances as part of a commitment to reduce resource consumption.
