Macau gaming operator Sands China Ltd has confirmed it will open the first phase of its US$2 billion The Londoner Macao project in “early February 2021.”
The company said via a press release on Tuesday that it will hold an official opening ceremony in February, with the remainder of the property to open progressively throughout the year.
Phase 1 will include the new all-suite The Londoner Hotel, Crystal Palace atrium, new dining options and interactive London-themed attractions.
The project represents a complete makeover of the property, previously known as Sands Cotai Central, into Sands China’s third themed resort on the Cotai Strip alongside The Venetian Macao and The Parisian Macao.
“Our investment in The Londoner Macao is a clear signal that we believe Macau’s future as one of the world’s most important leisure and business destinations remains on course,” said Las Vegas Sands President and Chief Operating Officer, Rob Goldstein.
“With spectacular London-themed accommodation, dining, shopping, entertainment and landmarks, The Londoner Macao will offer our guests another new and exciting experience while further illustrating our commitment to Macau and the expansion of its tourism offerings.”
Aside from a variety of new internal offerings, the external transformation of The Londoner Macao will see the property’s main façade recreate the architecture of the Houses of Parliament, including a replica of the Big Ben clock. It will feature a new 6,000-seat arena, rebranded retail mall and street shows, a VR experience plus a new Dongbei and Sichuan cuisine restaurant, a Thai restaurant, a British styled restaurant named Churchill’s Table and a gastropub by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
The gaming space itself won’t change significantly but Sands China has hinted it may feature more gaming options, with capacity for up to 450 tables and 2,000 slot machines. There will be more than 6,000 hotel rooms across four hotels with around 600 of those will be in the form of luxury suites in the hotel, formerly known as Holiday Inn Macau.
“Sands China has a successful track record of creating themed properties in Macau, and The Londoner Macao joins The Venetian Macao and The Parisian Macao as Asia’s top destinations for both the leisure and MICE markets,” said Sands China President, Dr Wilfred Wong.
“London is an iconic city and we anticipate this addition will further raise the profile of Macau while increasing the number of visitors as our other flagship properties have done.”
Sands China said it would accept hotel booking for The Londoner Hotel from late January.
