Two employees of The Star Sydney have been sacked and banned from New South Wales casinos for five years for separate cases of serious misconduct.
According to the NSW Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority, a female gaming attendant who had worked for the company for 11 years admitted to frequently placing bets on her phone during work hours in January and February of this year.
A male table games dealer was subsequently caught disposing of illicit drugs in a public area of The Star while off duty and fronted court in April where he was charged with possessing a prohibited drug.
The Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority said it decided to ban the employees from working at or entering a casino premises after The Star alerted them to the fact that both had been fired.
Authority Chair Philip Crawford said The Star had been correct to sack the employees and self-report to the regulator.
“A casino special employee is a licensee engaged to supervise and facilitate gaming activities,” Crawford said.
“These people help safeguard the integrity of casino operations from criminal influence, serious misconduct or exploitation and a special degree of trust is placed in them.”
