Marina Bay Sands (MBS) will open its live performance venue Sands Theatre for the first time in nine months when it hosts two concerts to crowds of 500 people this week.
Sands Theatre closed its doors in March as the COVID-19 pandemic swept into Singapore, but while the casino, retail stores, food and beverage outlets and even some MICE events have since resumed, live shows have until now remained off limits.
That will all change this week with MBS announcing it will host a two-day pilot concert on 18 and 19 December – also the largest live music event in the entire island state since lockdown circuit breaker measures were first implemented earlier this year.
The “Back to Live” concerts, featuring a lineup of local Singapore artists, will come with strict social distancing measures in place, MBS said, including designated zones with a maximum of 50 people in each and all seats being located at least one meter apart. Attendees will also have to present a valid negative antigen rapid test (ART) in order to gain entry.
“This event is a great step towards the gradual return of live entertainment in Singapore, and we are privileged to have been the only venue chosen for an event of this nature,” said MBS Senior Vice President of Resort Operations, Paul Town.
“As we reopen our entertainment venues in a responsible manner, we hope to instill confidence to welcome back concert-goers as they experience the best performances in this renewed environment.”
