SkyCity Entertainment Group has reopened SkyCity Adelaide just three days after closing and three days earlier than first scheduled following the easing of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions by the South Australian state government.
The early easing follows revelations that an infected Adelaide pizza shop worker, who picked up COVID-19 while also working at a quarantine hotel, had lied to authorities about his movements. The lockdown had been implemented on the back of his original story.
Having announced a strict six-day lockdown last week, the government quickly reversed that decision on Saturday with most businesses reopening on Sunday.
In response, SkyCity said it was reopening Sunday, albeit with social distancing restrictions in place. Those include initially limiting entry to certain membership tiers, a maximum capacity of 100 people including staff on the gaming floor and in each F&B outlet, and fewer spaces at gaming tables.
SkyCity said last week that it would delay the launch of its AU$330 million SkyCity Adelaide expansion development, including the 120-room luxury hotel Eos by SkyCity, as a result of the closure. The opening had been planned to take place this coming week.
