The number of visitors arriving in Macau continues to rise with daily arrivals pushing past 20,000 through the midway point of November.
Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), chaired a plenary meeting of the Tourism Development Committee on Wednesday at which she provided some updated figures on the SAR’s recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Visitor arrivals declined 86.7% year-on-year to 4.02 million people between January and September, including a low of just 11,041 arrivals at 368 per day in April.
Since then, visitor numbers have gradually improved, primarily since the Individual Visit Scheme was reinstated starting in August and reaching a daily average of around 19,000 people in October.
According to Senna Fernandes, that number has now climbed to 20,600 arrivals per day through mid-November, including a peak of 25,444 on Friday 6 November.
The MGTO boss also said average hotel occupancy rates had reached 38.1% in October and ranged between 33% and 45% in the first week of November.
