Cyprus Casinos, the Cyprus-based subsidiary of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, has suspended operations at two of its five casinos as a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic grips the island country.
In a notice published on the company’s website, Cyprus Casinos said it was closing its temporary casino C2 Limassol as of 5pm and satellite C2 Paphos at 3pm on Thursday 12 November as required under the nation’s emergency governmental measures.
C2 Nicosia and C2 Ayia Napa will remain open as usual for now.
The latest suspension comes after Cyprus officials placed the island’s southwest under a strict 19-day lockdown on Wednesday aiming to prevent the non-essential movement of people and slow the spread of the virus.
The nation of 875,000 residents reported 185 new cases on Thursday, taking its total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 6,646.
Cyprus Casinos, which is developing the €550 million City of Dreams Mediterranean, had previously shuttered all four satellite casinos plus its temporary facility in Limassol for three months from 17 March to 13 June.
ICR Cyprus, the operating entity of Cyprus Casinos, is 75% owned by Melco and 25% by local firm Cyprus Phassouri Ltd.
