Korean foreigner-only casino operator Grand Korea Leisure (GKL) showed some sequential improvement in October with casino sales rising 18.0% compared with September to KRW11.11 billion (US$9.9 million).
After two straight months of declines, October’s results included a 17.2% increase in table game sales to KRW9.16 billion (US$8.1 million) and 22.0% in slot machines to KRW1.95 billion (US$1.7 million). However, even with the improvements, casino sales were down 69.5% compared with the same month in 2019.
South Korea’s foreigner casinos continue to be severely hampered by the global COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent restrictions on international travel, with fellow operator Paradise Co this week reporting a 72.2% year-on-year decline to KRW22.36 billion (US$19.8 million) in October.
Through the first 10 months of 2020, GKL’s casino sales have fallen 54.5% year-on-year to KRW180.54 billion (US$160.1 million) while table drop is down 63.6% to KRW1.37 trillion (US$1.22 billion).
GKL operates two casinos in Seoul and one in Busan under its Seven Luck brand.
