The judging process for the Asian Gaming Power 50 has been described by this year’s Judging Panel as “the most difficult in the 13-year history” of the Power 50 list.

The comments from the Judging Panel come just three days ahead of the official announcement of this year’s list at the Asian Gaming Power 50 Black Tie Gala Dinner, to be held in the Parisian Ballroom at The Parisian Macao on Friday 6 November 2020.

The Asian Gaming Power 50 list is judged by an esteemed panel of nine hand-selected judges with decades of industry experience. This year’s judging panel comprises:

– Andrew W Scott – Vice Chairman and CEO, Inside Asian Gaming (Panel Chairman)
– Ben Blaschke – Managing Editor, Inside Asian Gaming
– Muhammad Cohen – Editor-at-Large, Inside Asian Gaming
– David Green – Principal, Newpage Consulting
– Constance Hsu – Director, Cheng Ying Group
– Desmond Lam – Professor in IR and Tourism Management, University of Macau
– Melina Leong – Managing Director, Yeewood Consultancy Limited
– Rui Pinto Proença – Partner, MdME Lawyers
– Michael Zhu – SVP, International Operations, Planning and Analysis, The Innovation Group

In order to arrive at the final rankings for the Asian Gaming Power 50, the judges examine each gaming business in the Asian gaming industry and assign one point for each US$1 million in GGR. Those points are then allocated between the organization’s one, two or more key executives and scores adjusted up or down for a multitude of positive and negative factors for each person on the list.

The final stage of the judging process involves close examination of the list and discussion between the judges on key head-to-head match ups before making any final adjustments as deemed appropriate.

While the process is a complex one every year, 2020 threw up a whole new world of complexities as the impact of COVID-19 played havoc with revenues for every single company on IAG’s radar. The solution was to continue taking historical GGR into account while adjusting each person’s score for current GGR in a balanced and measured way that also took into account longer term patterns.

In doing so, this year the panel has drawn on every ounce of their decades of industry knowledge and experience.

The judging process is arduous and intense, taking more than 60 person hours of deliberations and 15,000 written words between judges via email between July, when first discussions took place, and late October when the final Power 50 list is finally settled.

IAG looks forward to unveiling the results of this hard work at the Asian Gaming Power 50 Black Tie Gala Dinner on Friday 6 November 2020. Further details of the Asian Gaming Power 50 Black Tie Gala Dinner can be found at the dedicated Power 50 website at www.iagpower50.com.

First published by IAG in 2008, the Asian Gaming Power 50 has become renowned as the definitive guide to the most influential people in the Asian gaming industry.

The Asian Gaming Power 50 Gala Dinner will see IAG count down this year’s “Big 50” while guests enjoy a fine dining meal, lively entertainment and the company of many industry peers and influencers.
