Sasebo city officials has confirmed the establishment of a preparatory group for the Kyushu-Nagasaki IR Safety and Security Network Council, which will discuss measures to be taken against problem gambling in the public and private sectors.

The preparatory group could be established as early as November.

The Kyushu-Nagasaki IR Safety and Security Network Council consists of the prefecture, city and surrounding local government councils, medical institutions, social education organizations, the police and IR operators.

It will be responsible for verifying issues and proposing improvements on matters relating to problem gambling, security maintenance, the healthy development of young people and countermeasures to organized crime.

Once the preparatory group has been established, system details will be clarified next year and work will start.

On 28 September, Nagasaki prefecture stated that the prefectural assembly and general affairs committee was considering the establishment of a preparatory group for a joint public and private system to handle concerns surrounding casino development.

Nagasaki announced early last month that it was delaying the RFP process for IR operators due to delays in publication of Japan’s Basic Policy on IRs. The Basic Policy itself, which had been planned for release in July, has since been put on hold with a second draft policy published instead.
