Genting Cruise Lines says it is looking to recruit more than 100 Singaporeans to fill a variety of positions as it prepares to launch its first “cruise to nowhere” sailings out of Singapore.
As previously reported by Inside Asian Gaming, the Singapore Tourism Board has given the green light for pilot “cruise to nowhere” sailings to resume, with Genting Cruise Lines’ World Dream to launch sailings from Friday 6 November and Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas from an unspecified date in December.
Both operators will be required to obtain a certificate under the STB’s new CruiseSafe certification program before being allowed to set sail.
On Thursday, Genting Cruise Lines revealed it is looking to hire local Singaporeans to fill positions ranging from marine officers to chefs, media technicians and hospitality staff.
“Historically, international crew on cruise ships have to work for 11 months with a one-month vacation,” said Dream Cruises President Michael Goh.
“As World Dream operates short two- and three-night cruises, Singaporeans joining as crew can work on the ship with shorter work arrangements that could allow them to see their families frequently. This will make it very attractive for Singaporeans who have lost their jobs in the travel industry during this pandemic.”
