Macau’s Golden Week visitor numbers remained subdued for a fourth consecutive day with the Public Security Police Force reporting just 18,747 arrivals on Sunday, down 87.8% year-on-year.
The decline mirrors numbers recorded over the first three days of the October Golden Week holiday period with 58,345 arrivals on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Sunday’s figures take the total number of visitor arrivals over the first four days to 77,092, well down on the 616,000 people to enter Macau over the same period in 2019. A total of 980,000 people arrived in Macau during the entire seven-day Golden Week period last year, representing an 11.5% increase over 2018 levels.
By comparison, arrivals this year peaked on Saturday at just 22,116.
Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau last week revealed a 90.0% year-on-year decline in gross gaming revenue in September, only slightly improved from the 94.5% decline experienced in both July and August despite IVS being reinstated for residents of Zhuhai on 12 August and for all of Guangdong Province from 26 August.
As previously reported by Inside Asian Gaming, analysts are predicting a GGR decline of around 70% in October amid hopes that visitation might start showing some meaningful improvement from the middle of the month.
