SJM Holdings says its new HK$39 billion (US$5 billion) Cotai integrated resort, Grand Lisboa Palace, will showcase a range of environmentally friendly features when it opens its doors to the public later this year.
According to a Tuesday announcement, Grand Lisboa Palace will see all guestrooms installed with heat recovery ventilation systems in bathrooms, energy-efficient LED lights, temperature sensors, dual-flush water closets and faucets with low-flow fixtures, as well as smart control on curtains that will close automatically when the room is empty, reducing solar heat from the windows and the cooling loads of the room.
The Central Chiller Plant System and Building Management System of the IR will also optimize operations of the water-side equipment of air conditioning, with demand control variable speed drives saving energy consumption by controlling the chilled and hot water pumps and air handling units.
SJM highlighted its green initiatives after being awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification – a ratings system designed by the US Green Building Council. The award, SJM said, demonstrates compliance with stringent building standards in areas of sustainable sites, energy and atmosphere, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, innovation in design and regional priority.
“The Grand Lisboa Palace combines eco-friendliness and luxury by adopting long-term sustainability measures,” said SJM Chairman, Daisy Ho.
