Wynn Resorts has revealed that almost 550 staff at Wynn Las Vegas have tested positive to COVID-19 since it reopened for business in June, representing 3.6% of the workforce.
Providing details of its extensive testing program on Thursday, Wynn Resorts said it has now conducted a total of 15,051 COVID-19 tests in partnership with the University Medical Center, with 548 positive cases returned. Of those, 51 tested positive in the pre-opening stages and the other 497 since reopening.
However, 98% of positive cases were contracted outside of work, the company claimed, adding there had been a significant downward trend in positives.
“In fact, in the recent round of surveillance testing conducted on September 11, only one out of 285 employees tested positive,” Wynn Resorts said.
CEO Matt Maddox explained, “Our goal, by implementing our Surveillance Testing Program and establishing a robust in-house contact tracing effort, is to make Wynn Las Vegas the safest place our guests and employees can go outside of their own homes.”
Wynn Resorts said it has 10 employees working on COVID-19 contact tracing full-time with around 700 employees tested every two weeks.
Of the 500,000 guests the company has welcomed since June, only six have tested positive.
The state of Nevada has so far recorded around 74,000 positive coronavirus cases of which 63,000 have been in Clark County.
