Inside Asian Gaming registered its most viewed article of all time in August, with the news that Genting Group heir Lim Keong Hui had stepped down as Deputy CEO of Genting Hong Kong attracting a record 54,500 page views.

The article is one of five to attract more than 20,000 page views and one of 19 with over 10,000 page views in 2020 as IAG continues to cement its position as Asia’s leading gaming industry news source.

Since 2017, when asgam.com registered a total of 470,000 page views for the year, IAG’s web traffic has soared with 817,000 page views in 2018 and 1.89 million in 2019. For the first eight months of 2020 alone, IAG has attracted 2.32 million page views – a better than sevenfold increase in three years and 72% higher than the first eight months of 2019.

Average page views per article have also increased, up from 1,182 in 2019 to 1,743 in 2020. Average views in the month of August were 2,087.

IAG’s top 10 articles so far in 2020 have averaged around 25,000 page views per article, ranging from 13,800 to 54,500 views, tripling the average 7,200 views, ranging from 4,900 to 11,100, for the top 10 of 2019 (including their 2020 page views).

Notably, the 10th most viewed article of 2020 (13,800) has more page views than the most viewed article of 2019 (11,100).

By topic, Genting-related news has routinely ranked high on the list of most viewed articles with the top four all covering either Genting Malaysia or Genting Hong Kong. When it comes to sharing articles, however, Macau and the Philippines occupy the top four spots with the most shared article of all time coming in February 2020 when Macau’s Chief Executive, Ho Iat Seng, announced the closure of all Macau casinos for two weeks. That article alone achieved a staggering 7,800 shares.

“Inside Asian Gaming made a conscious decision in 2017 to make digital daily news a leading aspect of what IAG does, in addition to our long-running monthly magazine which focuses on analysis and opinion,” said IAG Vice Chairman and CEO Andrew W Scott.

“In April 2017 we launched IAG Breakfast Briefing to focus on news affecting the Asian gaming industry on a daily basis. Ever since then we have made it a high priority to deliver the information the industry needs while always striving to be number one in our field.

“Our editorial team, led by Managing Editor Ben Blaschke, has worked particularly hard to deliver these results – supported by a strong IT and technical team helping deliver to 28,000 recipients in three languages (English, Traditional Chinese and Japanese) every day. It is only through the efforts of our staff that we have been able to achieve such success.

“We have also noted that IAG’s articles and article ideas are increasingly appearing on other gaming industry news sites, sometimes credited but often blatantly copied without attribution. All we can say is that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and that knowledgeable readers invariably discover IAG as the original and best source of Asian gaming news.

“We are delighted by the massive increase IAG has experienced in 2020. Although these numbers have no doubt been aided by the global COVID-19 lockdowns, they also continue a trend we have seen from 2017 to 2018, from 2018 to 2019 and now from 2019 to 2020. A 72% increase from last year to now is a tremendous achievement for all involved.”
