South Korean foreigner-only casino operator Paradise Co says all gaming facilities at its Paradise City integrated resort will remain closed indefinitely after six employees tested positive to COVID-19 last week.
Paradise City, a joint venture project with Japan’s Sega Sammy Holdings located in Incheon near Seoul, was initially closed for three days from 1 September after one staff member tested positive. However, that cluster has now grown to at least six resort staff including two casino workers, according to local media reports.
Providing an update via a notice on its website, Paradise City said it had “decided to close the entire facility … as a high-intensity measure for the safety of both customers, employees and local communities.”
The entire resort will remain closed until 1pm this Wednesday 9 September with the casino to stay closed “indefinitely,” it added.
“During the suspension period, we will do our best to prevent the spread of infection by expanding the scope of inspection as well as conducting thorough disinfection and precise quarantine for the entire facility including the relevant business site in close consultation with the quarantine authorities,” the company said.
Paradise Co previously closed all four of its Korean casinos – Paradise City, Paradise Walkerhill, Busan Casino and Jeju Grand – on 23 March following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic before reopening Jeju Grand on 13 April and the remaining three on 20 April.
The company recently reported a 68.1% decline in sales for the three months to 30 June 2020 to KRW74.64 billion (US$62.9 million).
