The global poker industry continues to feel the effects of COVID-19 with two major tournament series scheduled to take place in Asia next month cancelled due to ongoing health and travel restrictions.
The Asian Poker Tour announced this week that APT Philippines, originally scheduled to take place at Resorts World Manila from 8 to 21 September, has been cancelled as the Philippines continues to struggle to contain the deadly virus. The APT has not held a live event since APT Taiwan in March.
Also cancelled is WPT Korea, with Paradise Poker at Paradise City in Incheon revealing that the popular World Poker Tour event, scheduled for 20 to 23 September, could not continue as a result of international travel restrictions. The WPT had previously cancelled all events through May 2020.
It did, however, proceed with WPT Japan over the weekend, which attracted a WPT Japan main event record of 726 entries. The event, hosted by Sega Sammy with the final table played out at Sammy Corporation’s Tokyo headquarters, was the first live event held by the WPT since March.
