Aristocrat Asia explains why its people continue to be the lifeblood of the company.
Aristocrat’s people are the beating heart of its business and the reason behind its success. The company knows that a healthy culture inspires and motivates people and helps it attract and retain the best talent in the world. It also helps Aristocrat realise its mission of bringing joy to life through the power of play.
Aristocrat Asia employs more than 40 people in regions such as Macau, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. Macau is the proud headquarters of the Asia business and is home to the Macau Integration Centre (MIC). This manufacturing facility is something unique that sets Aristocrat Asia apart, and since 2006, all of its Asia gaming machines have been assembled here.
With increased demand and the expansion of gaming in the region, so too has Aristocrat’s output capacity grown – currently to 9,000 EGMs annually. With technical support teams in Macau and the Philippines, Aristocrat Asia is focused and ready to support its customer’s needs.
LOCAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Since 2006, Aristocrat Asia has seen a significant increase in its employee numbers, which has provided a unique opportunity to provide substantial employment and development opportunities to the Macau community. In the last five years alone, the local workforce has seen a 150% increase across many of the company’s departments.
With a “people first” approach to all that it does, Aristocrat Asia continues to focus on local talent to ensure it can support its evolving markets and the wider Macau industry.
DIVERSE TALENT TO FUEL GROWTH
Aristocrat believes that attracting and retaining employees with diverse backgrounds, experience and abilities fundamentally contributes to business success, and delivers benefits to all stakeholders.
Aristocrat takes active steps intended to improve the participation and advancement of women in its business and industry, and since 2006 has increased its female ratio to 26%. The company knows it still has work to do, but it remains a key focus alongside attracting, cultivating and supporting local talent. Recent hires over the last few years demonstrate Aristocrat’s focus on continuing to build a diverse and local talent pipeline.
Annie Chan is Aristocrat Asia’s Operations Director, looking after both the MIC and technical support team. She is a true industry leader and has been a fantastic addition to Aristocrat’s Macau leadership team.
“Aristocrat is by far the most people focused company that I’ve worked for,” Chan says. “With strong values that guide our teams, it’s clear to see that mindset for cultivating talent is embedded within our business.
“Our leaders lead by example, we accept differences and recognise the contribution that we each bring to the team. It’s wonderful to feel good about the work you do and more importantly, working with people that help you be your best.”
Jason Wong is Aristocrat Asia’s Commercial Manager and joins Aristocrat after accumulating many years in the investment banking sector. Securing top talent from outside the gaming industry to add to its capabilities and diversity of thought remains a vital cog in the Aristocrat machine.
“Gaming in Asia is both a dynamic and interesting industry and region. I am excited by the Aristocrat brand and the breadth of the role, as well as being part of such a diverse and collegiate team,” says Wong.
Aristocrat believes in investing in local talent, especially in the early stages of their professional career and as a result, has instituted a Macau graduate program. The company is currently in its second rotation of the program with Yoyo Chu, which is progressing nicely. Many rotations create global learning opportunities and provide a deeper understanding of the business. As an example, Chu has had the chance to visit and learn in some of Aristocrat’s key markets including the Philippines and Malaysia.
“I am grateful and appreciative for the opportunities that Aristocrat has given me,” Chu says.
“Aristocrat has supported me at every step of the way and I’ve appreciated the training, guidance and support to help me on my career journey. I’m looking forward to my continued learning and exposure in different markets, where I can find my place in this challenging, fun and exciting industry.”
Paul White was recently promoted to become Aristocrat’s Director of Sales and Business Development based in the Philippines. He is a fantastic example of the company’s focus on succession planning and developing from within. White has contributed to tremendous growth for Aristocrat in the Philippines and enabled the company to grow its presence in both games and people. Aristocrat is the first company to have elected to locate its Sales Director in Manila, further demonstrating its commitment to the local industry and customer base.
“It is such a pleasure to work for a company that delivers on its goals through supporting and promoting its people,” said White.
Aristocrat is proud of its people first focus and continued focus on providing local opportunities for talent that will see the industry grow.
